The adaptive reuse project at Bondi Junction’s 120 year old Boot Factory building provided an exciting opportunity for Specialised Timber Fabrication. As the area’s last remaining industrial building of the Victoria Era, the building underwent a dramatic reconstruction to breathe new life into the space while also maintaining its heritage, using timber as a feature throughout.
Specialised Timber Fabrication supplied the project with unique Masslam floor slab panels, as well as curved GL18 rafters and 52 tapering Glulam beams which stretched up to the apex skylight; arguably the building’s most prominent feature. This grand radial ceiling design serves as an impressive visual to the top floor’s aptly named ‘Cloud Room’, and showcases the transformative ability of incorporating new timber into heritage designs.
