This project involved construction of a new centralised service centre for the Wattle Range Council in South Australia. Chapman Herbert Architects were tasked with designing a quality public building that was both cost-effective and environmentally sustainable, with a conscious decision to use local materials and local products.
Sourcing Pine GLT from SA’s own NexTimber, Specialised Timber Fabrication provided 28 clear span timber trusses, 28 columns, bracing and beams for the project. All components were prefabricated in our Melbourne factory and delivered to site for installation.
The exposed structural timber is a feature throughout the new complex, framing much of the open-plan layout that harnesses natural light and ventilation. Black bracketry and connection plates provide a distinctive contrast to the timber elements which results in a modern, industrial style.
